Between October 2021 and June 2022 a group of 22 artists were invited to curate a site specific exhibition in the soon to be demolished Appolo skyscraper and substituted with yet another office building on the luxury street of Düsseldorf, Königsallee. The artists horizontally self organised and created a weekly plenum during which they curated the exhibition, that included also its problematisation, including the ecological issue of tearing down the building, from which the name of the exhibition, ‘False Spring’, emerged.
The work consists of a limited edition of 20 hand-printed underwear pieces, with the exhibition’s logo ‘False Spring’, as well as a series of 5 advertisement posters. Models for the underwear advertisement were the participants of the exhibition themselves, while posing as washing or vacuum cleaning the building, therefore referring to the free artists’ labour used for art-washing the real estate company, owner of the skyscraper, Catella Group.
